The 2017 State Budget provides for an increase of EUR 0.50 until the end of the year in the civil service meal allowance (EUR 0.25 until July and the rest until August). Compared to these increases, the food allowance amounts to 4.52 euros until July and 4.77 euros from August onwards. As for private sector employees, they are only exempt from taxation for IRS and SS up to the amount of 4.52 euros, the remainder being taxed by the competent authorities from August onwards, and this taxation also applies to the public sector. To put it simply, the exemption threshold has been raised from €4.27 to €4.52 and with meal vouchers from €6.83 to €7.23.
