The investment in ‘gold’ visas rose by 80.6% in August, compared to the same period in 2018, to 82.5 million euros, according to statistics from the Foreigners and Border Service (SEF). Up to August, 7,431 ‘gold’ visas had been granted through the purchase of real estate, 397 of which were for urban rehabilitation. By nationalities, China leads the way with 4369 visas, followed by Brazil with 817. Since 2012, when the programme started, 13,364 residence permits have been granted, of which 1,549 this year.
